In April's F4F top 10 chart, we observed a variety of patterns that reflect the variety of conditions fly fishers have undergone early this season.
Claiming top spot for the third year in a row(!), the Pearly Daddy, has solidified its position as an April favourite amongst our members! (view our past charts here)
The Grey Wulff, Double Badger, Iron Blue Dun and March Brown (which climbed from last month's 9th position) all featured hackled designs. These patterns are expertly crafted to mimic the surface imprint that real insects would make, attracting any trout looking up for a meal.
The Hawthorne s another pattern you don't want to overlook, as these are amongst the first of the terrestrial insects to hatch in abundance during April and May. They can also be used later in the season to imitate gnats, so don't take them out of your flybox after the mayfly season has passed!
