About the Flying Ant Trout Fly
My creation could be mistaken for the real fly ant. I fished it at Gubu during a flying termite hatching where they were lying thick on the water and had been windblown in lanes along the bank roughly 15 to 20 feet out. The trout were feeding in a frenzy. When I put this ant on, I had immediate success. Most of the fish caught were large, taking lots of line and jumping a number of times.
Expert Tip:
The flying ant is popular in Zimbabwe and South Africa. Mine is a good floating fly and very realistic, but to be honest I think it caught more fishermen than it did trout in Zimbabwe.
