There has now been a full month of lockdown in the majority of countries, so how has our F4F top ten chart fared during this period? While the volume of flies has plummeted in April by 80% as waters remain closed and nowhere is open to fish, there are a few privileged individuals still managing to get invites to private lakes, or have properties located on or near rivers; but the vast majority of purchases has been from members stocking up on the hope that the lockdown will be relaxed sometime soon.
If you have had a chance to go fishing, we’d love to hear from you as well as everyone else stuck at home; send us in your stories and photos and we will share with others for some light relief.
Our top ten kicks off with our sturdy favourites, with 3 Apaches and our floating Green snail make top positions within the chart.
The Goldhead Daddy has outperformed the dominant Pearly Daddy this month, it’s one of our older successful classics still able to pinch positions from the modern top performers.
We are approaching May, and fly activity has been enormous this year; possibly down to greater sun visibility from lack of pollution, or reduced road activity – who knows! Yet we only have two Mayflies within our chart, The Mohican and Mosley Mayfly which are at the lower end. Does this mean that people are abandoning the idea of getting out in the short term, and concentrating in having allrounders within their flybox? We don’t think so, it’s a little early still and previous charts indicate that between 1-3 Mayfly patterns enter the chart in April, so this is a pretty average year so far for the Mayfly.
Please share this page with anyone you feel would like this Top Ten Chart, and we hope you have enjoyed it. And please keep safe during this difficult time.
